Amidst books, pajamas, and a mug of hot chocolate… that’s how we wrapped up the 2025 season of the Indianapolis Spanish Book Club.

Some nights feel just like a hug.
The night of our annual wrap-up for the Indianapolis Spanish Book Club was one of those. Amidst soft pajamas, spontaneous laughter, mugs of hot chocolate, and knowing glances exchanged between returning members and newcomers alike, we celebrated the end of a year that filled us not only with books... but with life.
This club, created by Mujeres Conectadas in partnership with the Indianapolis Public Library, has become an unexpected sanctuary for many. It is a place where reading in Spanish is an act of identity, resistance, self-love... and community.
The magic of new beginnings
One of the most beautiful moments of the year was hearing from those who—after more than 10, 15, or even 20 years without reading—found the motivation in this club to open a book again.
People who arrived feeling shy, saying:
"I haven't read in years... I don't know if I can do it."
And today, they celebrate having read eight complete books, with a sparkle in their eyes that comes only from the pride of achieving a goal that once seemed out of reach.
We were also deeply moved by the stories of those who had never read a book in their lives, yet found a safe, patient, and loving space here to give it a try for the first time—and succeed.
It is these kinds of quiet victories that remind us why we do what we do.

Each reading session was more than just a gathering:
it was an opportunity to understand each other better, to heal memories, to explore new ideas, and to see the world through different eyes.
Reflections on wrapping up with *Financial Wisdom*
During the final discussion, voices intertwined amidst deep reflections, necessary moments of discomfort, and transformative lessons:
what we liked,
what moved us,
and what we want to take with us to live a more conscious and dignified financial life.
Amidst laughter and quiet moments, we realized that talking about money is also talking about self-esteem, boundaries, family stories, possibilities, and freedom.
The joy of watching this community grow
Every month, as we open the doors, we see new members arrive.
People new to the country.
People looking to practice their Spanish.
People seeking a sense of companionship.
People who love reading... and people who didn't know they could love reading.
That moment when someone says:
"It's my first time here; may I sit down?"
It feels like a gift.
We are building a space that embraces, connects, and invites people to stay.
